chewing gum in school?

Chewing gum in school can have both a negative and positive effects on the students while participating in the academics of school.  However, the teachers are the ones who force the rules of what they believe gum chewing in class is helpful or not.

According to Baylor College of Medicine of Houston, Texas, gum chewing actually helps students concentrate with their thinking ability and memory. Chewing gum can also release stress from the student’s brain. Plus chewing gum can also encourage movement to the brain. Also, when students are chewing gum they are more productive in class and participate in the school activities.

Although, on the other hand gum chewing can affect the learning in class is that the gum can somehow always creep up under the desk and chairs in the classroom and can sometimes cause a distraction by people chewing there gum loudly or blowing bubbles. According to Mr. Decker, he does not like it when students are performing a speech and chewing gum.

In the shoes of being a student, my thoughts and opinions on chewing gum in school is that we should be allowed to chew gum in school under the privileges of using it in a mature way. I do not find gum a distraction in class I find it helpful so that it helps keep students participating in class.
