Pitching Arms

Many Tommy John surgeries are because of kids throwing pitches such as curve balls and sliders and breaking pitches at a very young age. The age that you should start throwing curve balls is 14-15 years old. But some other reasons for tommy john surgeries are the over use of the arm throwing 100 pitches or more a game especially in high school and even in collage is too much. For pitchers and catchers I mean they have to throw the ball back every time. But another thing that is the cause for tommy john is the form of the player throwing the ball if the drop their elbow or not. But say you haven’t done any of those things but you just have some arm soreness here are some things you can do so you don’t have to have surgery on your arm.

One thing that you could do is ice your arm and take some ibuprofen because when you ice wherever you ice those muscles tighten up so the more you use those muscles after you ice the better your arm will feel. The ibuprofen is to help get rid of the soreness. Along with those two things you should also drink a Gatorade because the electrolytes help you recover faster. To make your arm stronger so that you can throw more and not be as sore is to use arm bands such as the ones made by Jaeger sports the bands make your arm stronger so that you can throw longer and not hurt your arms .

The other thing that you should do is warm up your arm better. In high school my dad’s baseball team warmed up for 30 minutes and now a days kids warm up till they feel like they are tired of throwing I know this because I mean I play baseball and I know sometimes you just don’t want to warm up, and sometimes kids try to hurry up and get warm that’s not doing you any good. That kills your arms and when you warm up throw just fast balls. Some kids throw curveballs and sliders etc… The only time you should practice curve balls is during bullpen and if you’re pitching.

Weights and pushups are also good things to do for your arm because it strengthens your arm. Skull crushers and Bench press are also good things to do so that your arm strengthens up and you can throw for longer periods of time. Also remember that if you ever have arm sources to tell your coach so that you don’t hurt your arm and end having to have surgery.

Kids enjoy the game of baseball but make sure you’re taking care of your arm while doing it. It’s the best sport in the world but you need to take care of the thing that will keep you playing and that’s your arm and stay eligible otherwise you won’t ever see the diamond. Alright that’s it for this blog the picture attached is the correct throwing form.
