Why Everyone Should Listen To K-Pop

K-pop artists have been all over the news in recent years. Groups like BTS are taking not only Korea but the rest of the world by storm. With so many people listen to the catchy heartfelt songs, many probably wonder if they should too. If that’s you, you are in the right place.

K-pop, if you didn’t know, is music similar to pop music you hear on the radio in America, but instead, it’s all in Korean. There are a couple of English phrases in songs most of the time but for the most part, it’s in Korean. K-pop brings not only pop style music, but also other styles like rock and hip-hop.

(on the left; International K-pop group BTS) K-pop spreads knowledge of the Korean culture, an otherwise not talked about culture. The recent BTS song “IDOL” features a dance routine with traditional Korean dance moves, representing the members of the group and their heritage. But people all over the world participated in the IDOL Challenge, a dance challenge inspired by the song’s choreography. Through the IDOL choreography, BTS spread the Korean culture through dance. They showed the world a cultural aspect of their life in South Korea. So through K-pop, people can learn about a culture they otherwise wouldn’t know about.

K-pop makes you smart. If you only speak English or another language besides Korean, you probably won’t know common Korean phrases. Through listening to K-pop you can start learning the Korean language. Jenitherosefantaisie states “Studies revealed that learning a second or third language helps the brain to concentrate more and be healthier” (2). So by listening to K-pop, you can become more intelligent and more mentally smart.
