Who Is Mr. Woolwine?

Have you ever had a teacher that has done so many things in their past but you could never tell because your too focused on getting the work done, or not even caring? Well here at Fruita 8/9, we have a few teachers that are exactly like that! For instance, Gerald Woolwine, the tech ED teacher.  He has been through some things that no one would ever guess.

Gerald Woolwine was born in Fort Walton Beach, Florida, in 1965. He said that one really interesting thing about where he was born was,” the emerald white beaches down by the Gulf of Mexico”.  Also, it was and still is the biggest military institution in the USA. He has two brothers and two sisters. Gerald Woolwine went to three elementary school. He started at Fort Walton Beach Elementary, then Kenwood elementary, then finally, Wright Elementary. He played basketball and football.

When Gerald went to middle school, it was a JR. high school. He went to Max Bruner JR. High school. He loved band, it was his favorite class. He played the Trombone, Saxophone, and the oboe. He started band in 6th grade and kept playing from there.  Gerald’s best memory of his middle school life was when he was in band. He loved band so much that he couldn’t wait to get that class. What’s your favorite class? A lot of people think that they know exactly what their favorite class is, but do you really know? Maybe it changed? Or maybe you just don’t have a favorite… so what’s your favorite class?

When Gerald Woolwine graduated JR. High, he went to Fort Walton High School, in Florida. Now to go to elementary, middle/JR. high, and high school in the same state? Now me I have never been in the same state going to school. I personally have moved to three different states and been at least two years each place, so to go through elementary through High school is amazing. In 1979, Gerald got his driver’s license.  His first car was a 1971 Pontiac Catalina. Some of us aren’t even thinking about college yet, but Gerald was thinking about college all through High school, freshman to senior. When he graduate he went to the Navy instead of college. Then when he was 36 years old he went to college with his daughter.

Gerald Woolwine went to Polt community college with his daughter, then went to the university. He decided to go to college because he got hurt in the Navy by lifting heavy objects. He was originally just was not going to go to college because the Navy provided everything he needed. He went to college for a total of four years, but back then colleges didn’t do a four year college, so he had to go for two years and then another two years. A lot of us haven’t even though about college, but not just have we not thought about college, we haven’t thought about life. Life happens and maybe you just can’t go to your dream college. Now think about how he had to deal with life and the military, would you be able to go to the Navy and get injured then go to college while you’re older and then have to deal with a job as well? See it’s harder than you think. Gerald wanted to be a teacher because he liked the schedule. He liked the idea of just going to work Monday through Friday, also he liked having all of the breaks and holidays. And now… we… call… him… Mr. Woolwine.

Well, that was Gerald Woolwine, Mr. Woolwine, and his life that he went through to become a teacher. I hope when you all read this, you all will look at Mr. Woolwine a little different and have more respect for him. He will also answer almost any question you have for him. He also has some a maxing stories. Think about how he made a difference in his life and in the life of our country, maybe you could do that one day! Hope you enjoyed and don’t forget to check out the other Blogs. Have a Great Day!!!
