Snapchat is the most used app, but is it bad?

95% of Snapchatters say that Snapchat makes them feel happy, silly, and playful more than any other app tested. They say its because its where they go to be themselves, to stay close with friends and where they can share their day to day activities. What people don’t look at while downloading the app is random strangers adding you, or talking to people you don’t know. The dangers of being stocked or bullied. Is Snapchat addictive? Is Snapchat dangerous?

Yes, Snapchat is dangerous, A false sense of security is one of the major discussing features of Snapchat. Pictures and videos disappear after a certain amount of time, that encourages teens to post more risky pictures of them self because they know it’ll go away but they don’t think of how many people can screenshot it, yes it does notify them when someone screenshots it but chances are they aren’t going to delete it because they did post it. Also, it makes it nearly impossible for parents to see what their child is doing in the app, sexting is something to take very seriously when installing Snapchat, studies show more than 110,00 teens between the ages of 13 and 19 will admit to sexting. Since the pictures and videos go away they’ll send pictures and not think of the consequences.

Yes, Snapchat is very addictive, snap streaks are the most addictive because they don’t want to lose them. Teens these days are saying their more of friends with a person if they have a higher snap streak with them. A snap streak is when two people text everyday. “steaks develop a level between two people. The longer you snap streak is,  the better friends you are.” They say you are better friends if you have a higher streak but that means you text that person everyday, so yes you are going to be better friends. Also people use Snapchat because its entertainment and functional needs, people use it so much when they un-download it, they feel like are missing something or they are going miss whats going on. When teenagers say they are going to un-download it, with-in 48 hours its back on their phone.

Another feature of downloading snap chat, is people can cyberbully. but remember it all goes away so you cant save it unless you screenshot it, but it notifies the other person that you screenshot it. People can re-post what you posted and shamed. Also people can make fake accounts and stock what you are doing or pretend to be someone they are not. Parents feel that they can not protect their children when this stuff is happening because their children keep it to themselves. Most teens have drastic behavior changes that their parents notice.

parents should watch whats happening on their teens snap chat and watch their behavior because Snap chat isn’t that good of a place after all. Snap chat can be dangerous and addictive and that is not what it’s suppose to be used for. cyber bulling is not okay. and if that is happening children and teens need to contact an adult as soon as possible. Overall snap chat has many downsides to the app.
