Baby Kitten Mauled to Death by Dog

While Diana was letting her three pound  kitten out in the yard to go to the bathroom and get some exercise, it got mauled by her neighbor’s mastiff. Diana had adopted Manu to join there two other cats who immediately accepted him as part of the family. Diana said that Manu was abused as a kitten and was just starting to gain trust of humans again. She said that is was a growing trust that was violently cut short.

Diana and her neighbor had an agreement that they would take turn’s  letting their animals out in the yard. To tell one another that there animal was out they were to leave there door partially open for the neighbor to see. Diana said that when she had looked out to see if the neighbor’s dog was out that the door was firmly closed. So she set Manu down outside and stood and watched to make sure he was ok.  Only a few seconds after Manu had been in the yard the mastiff attacked sinking his jaws into the kitten. Diana says that she screamed and tried to unlock the mastiff’s jaws, but the dog just kept shaking him like a rag doll. By the time the dog was done the kitten didn’t survive the violent attack.

Regardless of the kittens death the neighbor claimed that her door was open and her dog was outside first. Diana said that her neighbor showed no sorrow or remorse. But is now feeling the loss of her own pet, as her mastiff Zeus was taken by animal control and threatened to be put down.  Zeus’s owner was also ticketed for having a “dangerous dog” and for not sufficiently controlling the dog in a common area. Mesa County Animal Control says the vast majority of all dangerous animal cases result from owners not properly looking after their dogs.
