Deflation of Professional Athletes Income By Joe Horen

Professional athletes have completely changed the reasons why we play sports. The average income of a professional football player’s income is 1.4 million. The reasons why most people play sports are to have fun and stay in shape, also people just like to get outside and play with some friends. The only thing that professional athletes do is play a game for the entertainment of others. This still means that they should make money just we need to lower the salary that they get.

These athletes actually want more money for what they are doing when they are already getting a steady income that is giving them way more than what the average person’s wage is. Instead of playing the sport just for the fun of it they are just doing it for the money. Alex Rodriguez is the highest paid athlete in the world, with and income of 22 million per year! This is way too much for someone who just plays a game of baseball. When most people have to work hard to make a salary that is not even close to that. The average wage for a person to have a house and a car with their kids being able to get a good education is 40,000 dollars, that is not even .2 percent of the income of Alex Rodriguez.

If a person was injured or sick and they missed a week off from work they could have a high possibility of getting fired when pro athletes get a 15 day recovery while they are getting paid. Also how do these athletes get paid so much? Well it comes from the fans when they buy the pricy tickets to get a better view, when they get hungry so they buy an overpriced beverage and food. The prices in the stadium are ridicules and they could be a lot better if the athletes didn’t demand so much money.

Kids look up to professional athletes and the athletes are considered role models. Some athletes don’t even come close to role models. Some are accused of rape, others are alcoholics and a lot of the athletes take steroids but still we all look up to them. A lot of the athletes only care about the money so they will do anything to get more even if it isn’t the best decision like steroids, but still they get millions of dollars. We need to make the sports that we made to just have a fun game back to that and that doesn’t mean stop the professional leagues but just deflate the profit so it can be more affordable to go to a game that isn’t completely played just for money.
