Education in America: A Growing Problem

Have you ever thought that maybe your teacher was a little fuzzy on the French Revolution? Or that maybe he or she could use a short refresher on quadratics?  Fear not, for you are not alone.  In order for us to end this nationwide crisis and improve our education, I propose that teachers take a test on their subject every five years in order to maintain their teaching license.  There would be elementary, middle school, high school, and college courses for teachers of all subjects and ages.  This would greatly increase the quality of our education system, which is currently ranked 14th in reading, 17th for science, and 25th for mathematics.  These all combine to give the United States an “average” education ranking, which is unacceptable.

In order to give and update these tests regularly, we must also increase spending in our education system.  This is of great importance because without education, our future generations will soon fall behind such nations as Sweden, Norway, and Denmark.  We are strong as a nation, but to remain the superpower that we are today, we MUST invest in our teachers and schools.  Education is the key to success.  This has been demonstrated time and again and yet people are still reluctant to pay just a few extra dollars out of their pockets to fill the youth of our nation with knowledge.  By investing in education, we are investing in the very future of our nation; good or bad.
