Can stress be your friend?

When most people hear the word ‘stress’, they can automatically relate. You can experience any type of stress from minor to massive amounts of stress. The feeling of stress is almost indescribable, for one person it might barely effect the person’s life, but for others, stress can cause major health issues. I, myself have had lots of experiences with stress; and I am just a freshman in high school. I viewed stress as the devil, until I saw information around the sensation that made me change my opinions. I will try to persuade you that stress can be turned into a positive effect on your body. Most of you are probably thinking, that is impossible. But with the help of The University of Harvard Health Scientists, we can prove stress has good potential.
When you feel pressure, insecurity, anxiety and much more; a hormone is released called oxytocin. This causes the person to feel the sensation that they need help from others. This not only makes someone more social; but it also relieves part of the stress level. Also, it makes someone crave physical contact from someone else. Something as simple as a hug from another person completely reduces stress levels, and since more oxytocin is being released, it is very healthy for the body. Even though this strategy may not work on stubborn people who don’t listen to their conches’, it is proven to work very well with others.
If you don’t like receiving help with other people, this is another way to help change the way you view your stress. There are many competitive people in today’s society. It is proven by scientists that if you view the problems that create your stress as a challenge, they become easier to finish and overcome. More specifically, if you convince yourself that you can accomplish the challenge, it will no longer become unbearable stress. If you believe that sweat, heart pounding, and the other body reactants to stress are actually preparing you to meet the challenge; they no longer become negative.
Normal stress with no coping methods can cause serious mental and physical health problems, but with a little challenge paired up with oxytocin as a sidekick, there is a much simpler and healthier way to defeat stress altogether.
