Basketball is one of the world’s most popular sports. Basketball was created in Springfield, Massachusetts in December of 1891 by this guy named James Naismith. James Naismith was a Canadian-American physical educator, sports coach and innovator in Kansas for a while. He created the sport to condition young athletes during cold months of December. As time passed, the sport became more and more popular as the 20th century started progressing starting in America and then to the world. The NBA was founded in New York on June 6, 1946 and became a multibillion-dollar enterprise by the end of the century. As of the early 21st century, the NBA is the most significant professional basketball league in the world in terms of popularity, talent, and level of competition. The ABA (American Basketball Association) was founded as an alternative to the NBA in 1967 when the NBA was experiencing a lot of popularity. The ABA offered to have some changes done to the rules. A guy named Julius Erving was the leading player in the league, and helped create a modern style of play. Since then, the game is better in ratings and so much more.
