NFL postseason

The NFL postseason is always a thriller, 6 teams make it to the playoffs from each conference. A total of 12 teams from the AFC and NFC all battling to be world champions. Some of the world’s greatest athletes go head to head. All fighting for one goal, the Super Bowl. In the following article I will inform you about how to make the playoffs and Super Bowl, this year’s playoffs and this year’s Super Bowl.

The NFL has 2 conferences made up of 16 teams in each, the AFC and NFC. The top 4 seeds in each conference make it to the Playoffs and the 5-6 seeds get a shot in the postseason during wildcard weekend. The 3rd seed will face the 6th seed while the 4th and 5th seeds battle it out. The 1st and 2nd seeds get a first week bye, they don’t participate in wild card weekend. After the wild card weekend ends, the plays 1st round begin  the lowest remaining seed will play the highest seed from each division and the 2nd highest seed will play the other team remaining. The winners of each game will go to their divisional championship game. The NFC and AFC championship games will be hosted at the highest seeds home stadium. The winners of that game will battle it out for the Vince Lombardi Trophy in the Super Bowl.

Wikipedia states “The Super Bowl began as an inter-league championship game between the AFL and NFL, an idea first proposed by Kansas City Chiefs owner Lamar Hunt. This compromise was the result of pressures the upstart AFL was placing on the older NFL. The success of the rival league would eventually lead to a full merger of the two leagues.”. The AFL became the AFC or American football conference and the NFL kept the brand and has the National football conference. The NFL was founded in 1920 in Canton, Ohio. The NFL started with 10 teams originally and the AFL started 8. Along the way adding more and more teams as years pass. In the current NFL there are 32 teams 2 divisions 8 conferences and 4 teams in each conference.

Over all the NFL playoffs are very fun to watch with friends and family, especially if you are a sports fan. The Super Bowl is the most viewed event in US television. With super bowl 49 being the most viewed television broadcast racking up an astonishing 114.4 million viewers.
