Adventures with Basham

Let’s all take a minute to learn about Ms. Basham. The bright, enthusiastic, and chill Ms. Basham. She grew up in Boulder, Colorado and was interested in midwifery and CSI but wanted to be a hairdresser or a teacher, one of them worked out! She graduated from Fairfield High School.  Some memories she remembers are that when she was little she would visit her grandparents in the summer in Nebraska on a farm and she loved all of the barn kittens. Her grandma would take her swimming everyday in town and stop by the library all of the time.

During school she loved to be involved in theater and choir, as well as her church youth group. She went on many mission trips including to Mexico, Illinois, and Fiji. Her favorite year of school was her senior year because she had an early release and lots of theater and choir activities. Her and her 3 year old sister would watch Sesame Street together.

She graduated from UNC in Greeley with a masters degree. There she studied interdisciplinary fine arts, theater, and education. She mastered ESL, counseling, and special education, taking six years to finish with way more credits than she needed. She has been teaching VBS, AWANA, and Sunday school since she was 12 years old but officially licensed as a teacher in 1996. She taught ESL, extended day kindergarten, behavior, reading intervention, 4th grade, 5th grade, and now Family and Consumer Science for 24 years.

A memory that she has in between schooling is that she lived in a huge house with all of her friends and they had lots of fun! She also was just reminded by a student that she volunteered for Partners and got to take her jr Partner – Lizette and her little cousins to Chuck E Cheese in Fort Collins. Years after this experience, she was visiting a classroom in Greeley and a kid came up to her and reminded her, they were one of the little cousins! What a small world! Ms. Basham says that this memory helps cheer her up and that everything you do has an impact even if you are unaware of it!

Some of Ms. Basham’s favorite things are kittens, kittens, cats galore! She likes the colors purple and red and enjoys eating sushi or homemade chocolate cake with white frosting. She also likes to drink Coke Zero with lime. Her favorite year of teaching was when she taught 5th grade at Nisely with her 2 favorite co-workers and they departmentalized and took them to camp. They also dressed up and did a lot of working together, they are all still friends and got the Colorado Governor’s Award for growth 3 years in a row! Lastly her favorite time of day is whenever she gets to be with her kids (⅔ are adults) or when she can recline and sit back to watch Netflix, drink a Quench drink, and have a cat or two by her side with a fan pointed in her direction. Maybe a good book too.
