Mrs. Willms is a fun-loving teacher that makes class time a great experience for every student who walks through the door. She loves her job. In fact, she said her favorite thing about it is, “hanging out with the kids, class is never boring.” I think all of her students would have to agree. She was born in Fruita and grew up locally. Fruita is where she lived, went to middle school and high school. She attended Western New Mexico College. She actually wanted to become a physical therapist or sports trainer. Then, in her junior year, transferred to Mesa State. It was there that she realized she wanted to be a teacher. Although she did have a few jobs before teaching, like working a hotel front desk, flower shop, baking wedding cakes and personal trainer, she recalled. After eleven years of it, Mrs. Willms still finds time every day to have a little fun. After school she likes to get active and do something. One day in class she said, “A bad day at school equals a good workout.” She loves sports. She golfs, lifts, hikes, bikes, rafts and goes to the movies, pretty much any type of physical activity. I asked her what she wanted to do when she retired, without delay, she answered, “live on the beach and golf ever day,” she responded matter of factly.
