Heart over Height – Nate Robinson

Nate Robinson is one of the most athletic people on the planet. He was able to play two sports in college. He played football and basketball for the Huskies. Not many people are able to do that. Playing D1 is impressive period, but two sports is just incredible. He originally came to Washington on a football scholarship. His freshman year, he was a cornerback on the football team and a guard on basketball team. Once the football season was over, he hopped on the basketball court and became the teams’ leading scorer and also started the last ten games. He put himself fourth on the list of freshmen in Washington history. After that season, he decided to focus on basketball. He played well at Washington and attracted lots of NBA scouts. He went into the draft after his junior year and was a first round pick. He was drafted by Phoenix, 21st overall but was traded to the Knicks. He recorded 9 points per game his first season and had valuable minutes off the bench. He bounced around the league, playing for 7 different teams, including the Knicks, Celtics, Warriors, Thunder, Bulls, Nuggets and Clippers. His career high in points is 45. Nate has always been a spark plug for any team he plays on. A big play for him could come at any time. Nate Robinson has had a good NBA career, but the most impressive thing is that he made it in the first place. Being under 6 feet in the NBA is un-heard of. Standing at 5-9, Nate has been able to do it for years, despite the odds. With 6-8 players towering over him he still finds a way to finish at the basket. With height not at his advantage, he must rely solely on skill. That’s why he is, pound for pound, one of the best players in the world. His insane bounce helps make up some of that ground. With a 43.5 inch vertical, he skies to the rim and throws it down amongst taller defenders. His jumping ability has helped him win four NBA dunk contests. His game isn’t the only thing cool about him. His huge collection of sneakers and awesome shoes has drawn him a lot of attention. His closet holds 150 plus. He only wears the rarest air Jordan’s and Nikes. People have even begun to pay attention to the coolest sneakers worn in the NBA. Nate is always near the top of the list. He’s always surprising the audience with never before seen retros and customs. It’s another thing that makes him an interesting player to watch. Nate is an amazing player and very unique. He is an inspiration to anyone that has been told they couldn’t do something. He has been undersized at all levels , but he worked harder than anyone else and made it to the NBA.
