Types of Bikes

There are many different types of bikes but there are three main ones every biker should know about. There’s XC which is for people all about endurance and stamina. They are good for long distance racing through different terrains with different kinds of obstacles. Enduro bikes are pretty much do it all mountain bikes so they can go uphill and downhill pretty good. During races they get timed on the downhill part but then they have to go up some hills to get to the next downhill part. Downhill are the rough and tough bikes that are made to take hard hits and get up and walk away fine. They are also designed to get down a steep technical trail as fast as possible.

Enduro bikes are probably the best type of bike to get because it’s designed for uphill and downhill. Enduro bikes are used for descending in a quick way while also being able to climb up a steep hill quickly to go back down a hill. Enduro bikes have to be light in order to have an easy time climbing up hills and they also have to have alot of travel in the suspension for the downhill part of it. They are designed to be stable, maneuverable and be able to handle the suspension on it well. Usually they are full suspension with 160-170mm in front and 150-160mm in back. Suspension also can be locked out so that climbing is easier and you aren’t bobbing up and down intensely as you pedal. Enduro bikes are probably one of the best types of bikes for do it all riding.

Downhill bikes are designed to get you down a hill in the fastest way possible. They have up to 200mm plus of travel for the suspension to provide the softest most comfortable ride down steep technical trails. Downhill bikes are made to handle the toughest most techy trails with drops and jumps so they need the toughest components. They are designed to be the most stable and most maneuverable at all because they are going down steep trails and need to be able to move the bike easily. Downhill bikes are usually not light because in order to be tough it has to be made from the toughest components which are usually pretty heavy. They don’t do uphill very well because they have so much travel and are so heavy. Downhill bikes are best used for steep techy trails with jumps and drops that enduro bikes can’t quite handle.

XC bikes are used for cross country riding with small and large obstacles. They are usually lighter than most other kinds of bikes because they need to be ridden a long ways on hard or easy terrain such as rough forest paths, roads, and or single tracks. Most XC bikes are hard tail meaning only front suspension but some XC bikes are full suspension. They usually have little suspension travel at 100mm to make it easy to pedal long distances but some bikes get up to 150mm of travel. They

usually have a wide variety of gears to make it easier to pedal on various terrains and slopes. The geometry usually isn’t super advanced because it doesn’t have to be super advanced for stability and speed because it’s just about endurance and stamina. XC bikes are best used for long distances needing good endurance and stamina.

Out of the many types of bikes, XC, enduro, and downhill are some of the most common. Enduro bikes are probably one of the most common because they can pretty much do everything. XC are popular with the people really good with endurance and long distance races. Downhill bikes are tough and can take the steepest most technical trails out there. Biking is one of the funnest sports/ hobbies out there and it’s a way to get physically active in your local trails.
