Why phones should be allowed in school

At most schools in America, cell phone policies are inflicted. But the question is, should phones be allowed in the classroom? There are many pros and cons to cell phones, but I believe the pros outweigh the cons.

In an article, it weighs the pros and cons of phones in the classroom. The pros to me really outweigh the cons. The article states, “ A cellphone at school allows children to contact emergency services, speak with their parents, and have an extra layer of security during a lock down drill.” The safety for me is a big reason why I’m pro phones. With an average of 10 school shootings per year, most parents want their children to have their phone for security. The article also states “Cell Phones offer students access to instant research when they need to learn something new. If a student is curious about a specific subject, they can use their phone to learn more about it.” Phones can keep kids from the embarrassment of not knowing the answer with a simple search on their phone. It serves as a learning material in a way that you can look up any questions a teacher may not know.

The cons are worrisome too though. The text states “There are hyperactivity concerns for students who are frequently exposed to the blue light that cell phones produce on their screens.” This is highly unlikely, but still a chance of it happening. The high school children don’t need to be on their phone constantly at school, but when the teacher takes them, it can cause panic in the event of a lock down or humiliate a kid in front of the whole class. Another reason for no phones in school is that it gives students access to inappropriate information. This is stopped at most schools because the service isn’t great so the students have to connect to the wife, and all the inappropriate information is blocked. This concern isn’t really comparable to a child’s safety.

Overall, a kids safety at school should be more important than inappropriate information. Steps can be taken against the inappropriate content at school, but there isn’t anything that can be done about the possibility of an unsafe situation.
