Screen Addiction Statistics and Information

Screen addiction. Something that almost everyone struggles with on a daily basis. Whether you have a screen addiction or not, it’s still a serious issue. With our modern access to technology and use of it every day it seems, if the world lost their screens, we would go mad. Some people truly feel lost without their phones and it is a real problem.

On average, in 2019, an internet user spends 6 hours and 42 minutes online each day. (Zuckerberg).” That is more than a quarter of a day wasted online. It is a continuous cycle and time online is only increasing, with young kids spending a majority of their time on computers in school and using their phones all day to communicate with friends, teens time is growing. “39% of students have a low-level addiction, and 32%have a moderate addiction…a 2019 study revealed 3.4% of teens have a severe internet addiction. (Zuckerberg)” With all of the communication being warped around phones, it can really affect young and old minds alike.

“Almost 40% of all users admit to using their phones too much. The rate is even higher for 18-34-year-olds at 64%.(Zuckerberg)” It’s not only children who are being affected by screen addiction. More adults admit they have a problem than younger people, which is expected, but adults also aren’t making any changes to reduce screen time. Now, so many jobs you get involve technology, making it hard to escape or limit your screen time and addiction. And in a way technology is a blessing but it is important to control it. As proven by these statistics, screen addiction is a thing and it is a very big problem. I hope this piece was educational and opened your eyes to the problems we face with screens.
