District Budget Cuts

logoDistrict budget cuts; everyone has heard of them sometime or another. The real question is what do you think we should do about them? There has been some discussion on taking off Friday and having longer school days, taking away buses, or even cutting middle school sports all together.  I think the best solution is to cut the school year by a few days all together. Taking a few days off each semester is not going to make a huge difference in our teaching routine. Think of how many days in class you just watch a movie or have a “work day”. By taking away these class periods of wasting away time and money we can use it to get all the curricular requirements done and covered faster than before. If that is not at all possible to work out with some of the teachers we could always cut it from primary schools only. All they do the last week of school is have parties and do fun activities that don’t count towards anything. If high schools need to keep those days to do finals then at least were cutting some money from the budget by not having to pay for buses, lunches, teacher’s salaries,  and electricity for a few days even if it’s just for those schools. The State of Colorado funds 70% of the District’s budget and local tax payers fund 30%. By minimizing our budget we can use some of those tax dollars to help the economy get back on its feet.
